Find Help, Find Hope!

Family Support Group Leader

Dear Prospective Family Support Group Leader,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a NAMI Southwest Washington Support Group leader. We would love to get to know you better and help you learn more about us to see if we would be a good fit. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, of Southwest Washington (NAMI SW WA) is dedicated to helping all people affected by mental illness through education, support, awareness, and advocacy.

Our service area is Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania, and Wahkiakum counties in Washington State with an office in Vancouver. Through our mission, we provide unique mental health services that are unavailable or inaccessible elsewhere for individuals and families affected by mental health issues through education, support, and advocacy.

As a Family Support Group Leader, you will gain access to NAMI Signature Trainings that will teach you valuable skills on leading groups and discussions. These skills are also applicable to everyday life.

Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety. The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on your overall psychological well-being. Your valuable lived experience can help to change the lives of other members in your community struggling with their loved one’s mental health.

Family Support Group meetings are scheduled throughout the week. Support groups range from morning, afternoon, or evening and all run for 90 minutes long. NAMI SW WA requests a commitment of 2 years, leading a minimum of 6 Family Support Groups a year.

To volunteer with NAMI SW WA, you must be at least 18-years-old.

Training for Family Support Group Leader is provided, when available, through NAMI Washington State. Training is either in-person or online. To fill out a Family Support Group Leader application, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Amy Ford at the NAMI SW WA Office. All supervision is overseen by the Volunteer Coordinator and the NAMI SW WA Staff.
