Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety. The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on your overall psychological well-being. Your valuable lived experience can help to change the lives of other members in your community struggling with their own or their loved one’s mental health.
As office support, you will gain access to NAMI structures, resources, and networks that will teach you valuable skills on providing resources to callers and visitors and providing statistics to NAMI National that provides information to published national statistics on mental health. You also learn how basic mental health facts, mental health disorders, de-escalating techniques, how to find resources, and more. These skills are also applicable to everyday life.
It is important that all Office Support Volunteers understand that at times, you will overhear confidential information. All information in the office and within NAMI SW WA is to be kept confidential and not shared outside the office.
To volunteer with NAMI SW WA, you must be at least 18-years-old.
Tasks that may be assigned to you and skills you will learn throughout this job can include: data entry, copier-fax-scanning machine use, multi-line phone, communications, office organization and filing, de-escalating situations, social security filing, finding resources such as housing, and mailing projects.
