It is hard to believe, but a new year is here. The brand-new calendar boasts blank squares with a pretty winter picture, and thoughts of a fresh start begin to spark a bit of hope. But sometimes, even the thought of a new beginning or change can feel like pressure. Resolutions are not accomplished overnight, nor are goals achieved; however, by starting with small steps and setting attainable intentions, what once seemed out of reach may finally be right in front of us. This same mindset can be applied to mental health recovery.
Recovery is a personal and delicate process that is unique to everyone. The tools accessed in the journey are essential to ensure the process is not a constant struggle, and just like any new structure, there must be a solid foundation and support. Since no hardware store for emotional tools exists, NAMI of Southwest Washington created STRive, Steps to Recovery. STRive is a safe, supportive group that provides mental wellness education and tools for successful and sustained recovery from mental health conditions. STRive emphasizes recovery and personal responsibility as keys to a successful life, even while experiencing mental health issues or crises. STRive aims to help strengthen coping skills and learn to respond healthily to stress rather than react negatively. Together, the group works to build a foundation for reaching and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Please take a peek below to see what skills you can add to your mental wellness toolbox. Join us to grow, learn together, gain confidence, and even share a few laughs.
