By NAMI Southwest Washington
Caring for a loved one with a mental illness is an act of deep love — and often, deep exhaustion.
It can mean sleepless nights, endless phone calls, confusing systems, and carrying the emotional weight of someone else’s pain while trying to hold yourself together.
Caregivers are the ones who:
-
Advocate when no one else will
-
Sit in hospital waiting rooms for hours
-
Navigate insurance and treatment systems that feel impossible to understand
-
Face stigma and misunderstanding from people who don’t see the full picture
It’s a role filled with courage and resilience, but it can also be incredibly lonely. That’s why we’re excited to share that the NAMI Family Caregiver HelpLine is launching — a new resource created specifically for family members and loved ones who provide care and support to an adult living with a mental illness.
What Is the NAMI Family Caregiver HelpLine?
The NAMI Family Caregiver HelpLine is a free, confidential support line staffed by trained, peer caregivers — people who know what it’s like to walk this path because they’ve lived it themselves.
When you contact the HelpLine, you can expect:
- 💬 Peer-led emotional support
Talk with someone who truly understands the challenges and mixed emotions of being a caregiver. - 🧭 Practical guidance and resources
Get help navigating systems, exploring options, and finding services that may support both you and your loved one. - 🤝 Compassionate, judgment-free conversation
Whether you’re overwhelmed, confused, or just need someone to listen, HelpLine volunteers are there to meet you where you are. - 💚 Affirmation that caregivers matter
This service is built on a simple truth: you deserve care, too. Your well-being is not an afterthought — it’s essential.
