May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to slow down, check in with ourselves and each other, and remember something important, mental health is part of everyday life. It affects how we think, feel, connect, and move through the world. It is not separate from our daily routines, our work, or our relationships. It is woven into all of it.
For many people, mental health is not a straight line. There are good days, hard days, and everything in between. Some days feel manageable, others feel heavy. That is part of being human. What often gets lost in that reality is this, you are not meant to navigate it alone.
You Are Not Alone, Even When It Feels That Way
One of the most powerful things Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us is that support exists before a crisis. You do not have to wait until things feel overwhelming to reach out. You do not have to prove that you are struggling “enough” to deserve care.
At NAMI Southwest Washington, we hear from people every day who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and everything in between. We also hear from family members and loved ones who want to better understand and support someone they care about.
There is no single “right way” to experience mental health. What matters is that you feel seen, heard, and supported.
Small Steps Can Lead to More Good Days
“More Good Days” does not mean perfect days. It does not mean the hard moments disappear. It means finding ways to build support, connection, and tools that help you move through those moments with a little more ease.
That might look like: Talking to someone you trust; Joining a support group where you can be yourself; Learning more about what you are experiencing; Taking a break when you need it; Reaching out, even when it feels difficult
These steps may seem small, but they matter. Over time, they can create space for more moments of relief, more connection, and yes, more good days.
Join Us for NAMIWalks: More Good Days, Together
This May, we invite you to take a step with us.
NAMIWalks is more than an event, it is a movement. It is a chance to stand together, share hope, and remind one another that we are not alone in this journey. Every step taken is a step toward awareness, support, and a future where mental health is treated with the care and understanding it deserves.
This year’s theme, “More Good Days, Together,” is a reflection of what we all need, connection, support, and community.
Whether you walk, donate, volunteer, or simply show up, you are part of something meaningful.
We hope you will join us.
